On my way back to Berlin, Germany on Sunday, 10th on November there was an additional baggage check after the passport control. (Why???) So there was an employee called Ashraf, he wore a blue sweater, blue shoulder board with 3-3 gold colored approx 2cm diameter stars - no service number or badge. He took away my 4 plumbum weights, however could not refer the rules why he is doing so. So than what the? :) I travel more than 10 years with them. If it is the rule, it is the rule (I don't really think so tho, as of yet it wasn't an issue anywhere) - but the member of the Egyptian authority does not know why he takes something, just takes it? It makes me afraid, what else authorities can deliberately do in Egypt?

12/09/2024 Turkish Airlines checking for flight at 1.40am Man in glasses who supposedly help with luggage tried to scam my partner for €50 He run after him and waited in the past passport control area. Be careful with the scam. They insist there is a problem with your bag and want money. I always bring my own scale.

Good afternoon. On the day of departure (July 28, 2024), the child forgot her soft toy (two white bunnies). Was forgotten in the boarding area. How can I return it? The child is very dear and she is very worried.

This honestly has to stop, am pregnant at 6 months and the person who without any ask or request took our luggage from the taxi. Once he placed them on the trolley he started claiming to get us through security check with no queue (which we did not ask for and had plenty of time before our flight). When I tipped him for this unasked and unavoidable "service", he started shouting that the money are not enough and I should pay more! Told him these were our last money as we were leaving the country but he continued aggressively insisting on being paid more. He drove me to tears for no reason by keeping shouting and official security person just had to step in as this was getting out of hand. We have not been to Sharm for many years (and these things are one of the reasons why) and really hoped things have improved but seems it just got even worse. So sorry Sharm, not spending our hard earned money on another holiday here due to having to go through these experiences again.

This was my third visit to Sharm because of the beautiful coral reefs but it will unfortunately be my last. I am not surprised reading the reviews at the absolute shambles encountered by passengers at the airport. Rude staff, corrupt officials, you name it. Saw quite a number of people who had obviously paid to skip the check in queue or fast track through security. I was offered an emergency exit seat on the plane no dount for a fee. Thankfully I had already prebooked seats. The number of bag searches and passport checks is completely over the top. You put your bags through a scanner before getting to check them in. Fair enough. Then you need to have a pen to fill in the Egyptian leaving card before presenting at passport control. Then another 'police officer' checked my passport again before my remaining carry on baggage was checked for drugs etc. Then had to write in a book my passport number etc. and what flight I was on for no apparent reason. Then like others say the toilets are disgusting, have little or no toilet paper and attendants who think you should tip them for the privilege. I thought after the airport had to prove it's security was up to modern standards after the poor Russian plane was brought down by a bomb a number of years ago the experience would have improved dramatically. Unfortunately this does not seem to be the case. How this charade is deemed acceptable is beyond me. Sharm is a lovely place and has decent hard working people who rely on the tourist industry. Unfortunately, a tourists lasting impression is leaving from the airport and I fear, like myself, many will not return.

I traveled in Egypt and flew home back to Istanbul early in the morning of May 12th. I arrived at Sharm El Sheikh Airport and asked if I could not put a film chamber in an introscope, as he lit up the film. The airport staff began to discuss this with each other and one of them began to touch my camera, photograph and eventually clicked on a button that removes all frames from the film! Not only that he spoiled me the film, it was still laughing at it. Is this normal guards behavior in your airport? He not only spoiled me my property, tried it without permission, so also pressed the buttons, and if it were a bomb? When I asked where I could leave the complaint, he just laughed at me. Please take action, the actions of the airport staff are unprofessional and unsafe, spend the test of their actions.

nobody in sharm airport is honest, i have never in my life been to such a terrible airport. Your staff are nothing but thieving beggars. Your airport is a total hovel, and i dont need anybody to help me wipe my bottom or dry my hands for money.

Upon having my baggage inspected i was told to open my bag for search. This was done and the customs man STOLE my medication as he said he wanted to try it as he thinks he has high blood sugar. This is MY prescription medicine that i also had my doctors prescription for. How can this behaviour be acceptable?

Upon arrival at my destination it is not a great surprise that my suitcase is now lost, more likely stolen by your staff as they knew what was in it.

If you check your surveilance cameras you will see this is true, this guy needs fired and prosecuted for theft.

Its such a shame because sharm is so beautiful and all hotel staff arw friendly and wonderful, it seems all the dregs of society are employed at your airport.

I would like to know how you are planning on dealing with this.

Good afternoon, my name is Alexey, I am in a place with my family, in the number of 6 people, I took off from your airport on 02/22/2024. And I wanted to share my impression of the work of your staff at the reception desk No. 32.
This is simply not acceptable behavior, I went to the registration stand, where an employee with glasses, a red jacket and a badge on his neck was standing, I put 6 passports on the counter, and immediately for some reason caused a negative reaction from the registration employee. He took my passports, for some reason, knocked them on the stoic and with the words do not do this, in a pile of form, refused to register me. I asked what was wrong, he didn't answer me. He saw that I was with elderly disabled parents of 2 groups, two children (one is 6 years old, the second is 10 months old), and my wife. He did not explain the reason. I asked him what his name was, and he turned out to introduce himself. We moved to another counter thanks to the employee on the left in the photo, in a dark sweatshirt, who was very kind and helped, thank him for that. Immediately after we left, an employee in glasses and a red sweatshirt began to receive people. The attitude is as if he is not at work, and this is his personal registration boner, whom I want to register. A categorically disrespectful attitude that left a negative impression on my whole family.
The inspection itself, starting from the entrance, also leaves much to be desired, three entrances work, there is a queue in one, the second two are free, why do this? Is it really impossible to redirect the queue of people? Or is this your attitude towards Russian tourists?
I am attaching a photo to understand what kind of employee it was. I hope that you will draw conclusions and have a conversation with this employee. There is no desire to return to you again at all. Considering that I used to really like to visit you, but, unfortunately, nothing changes, and prices are rising. Moreover, I will say a lot of my friends refuse to visit Egypt, for the same reasons, preferring to rest in other countries. Disregard for Russian tourists!!!!
Thank you in advance and I apologize for the translation.
if you send an email, I will send a photo of the employee who did so.

I must narrate the most horrible experience I have had with my wife at this extremely modern looking (from outside) but decrepit badly maintained airport (from inside).
My departure flight from SSH to LTN was on 4th Jan 2024. Reached SSH airport more than 3 hours early for the formalities, that I honestly felt would not take more than an hour - how naïve of me!
At the front gate of the airport (before the actual check in desks, you have to put all your luggage, including belts, watch, mobile, pens, spectacles, shoes, etc on the conveyor belt - NO PLASTIC BOXES PROVIDED! The security are rude and shout at the passengers. My Parker pen got lost in the conveyor railings an my Rotary watch was found on the floor and not working. Another passenger was distraught his mobile screen was cracked after it fell of the security conveyor belt. Part 1 of the saga.
Though we had our boarding cards printed online, we still had to queue at the Check-in desk with our passports. We were issued proper boarding cards. Part 2 done.
Then we had to pass through Immigration presenting our passports again. Had our mugshots taken again (it was already done on arrival) with finger prints (again). We had to fill out a form for this. No pens available. My pen had already been lost! Anyway, got through this Part 3.
Then once again we went through the proper security. NO PLASTIC BOXES AGAIN! All items that we were carrying were once again on the conveyor belt for scanning again. This time, I was a bit careful and stuffed my jacket with small items. Then after passing through the security body scanner, had a burly security man doing a hand pat search of literally every part of my body - front & back. Very intrusive! Ladies had a similar treatment by women security officers - Part 4 over.
As we left the security area, I was 'randomly' pulled out (I think every second person is pulled out) for another check. This time, they made me write my name and Passport number with destination in a book. They took swabs from my baggage. I was then allowed to pass on. Part 5 done.
Checked for filling up our water bottles with the water fountains that are found in almost every airport in the world. Guess what? There are no such facilities. Had to purchase water bottles at a premium price.
No free functioning WiFi in the Airport.
Toilets are very poorly maintained and the attendants expect money. My wife told me that the female toilets had 'sh*t on the floors and toilet seats. No toilet rolls.
By this time, it was time to board. There was no time to have a burger from the Burger King that I was planning to have.
At the boarding gate, once again, we both were 'randomly' picked up for additional screening. This time it was with a full body pat check and swab scanning for drugs. Part 6 over. Phew!
Scrambled towards to waiting bus to get to the aircraft and board.
Flight left on time and no complaints about the airline.
For a supposedly tourist friendly destination like Sharm El Sheikh, this had to be the worst airport in the world (surpassing Tel Aviv Airport) I had experienced in many years as a seasoned traveller. One is left feeling humiliated at the end of this. I was planning to visit this lovely destination in the future but now I am having second thoughts.
I think the Ministry of Civil Aviation in Egypt, should seriously review the procedures followed in this airport. I agree that Security is very important but what is happening in this airport is farcical, to say the least.

The worst airport I have ever experienced in 10+ years of solid travel across 50+ airports and most continents.

Despite the numerous security checks, I have never felt so unsafe at an airport in my life.

Getting off the bus, two young guys started fighting (physically) over our suitcases in a bid to try and help us carry them 100 metres to the airport entrance, despite us telling them many times that we do not want this. Thankfully a holiday rep saw this and broke it up.

The first (of many) security checks had a guard telling us we need boarding passes to enter the check in area. But our flight was cancelled/rescheduled and we were told to collect at check in. There is no wifi in the airport to be able to access anything online either. One couple looked visibly distressed about this until others had to explain the situation to the security guard.

There is no wifi in the airport unless you have an Egyptian number (I only found this out after asking a duty free staff member), not even a paid wifi service. Using roaming data in Egypt costs £££ for a few megabytes. Thankfully a worker from the duty free leant me his hotspot so I could contact home.

Before boarding we were squashed into a bus that stood idle for 20 minutes, a passenger passed out from the heat and the staff simply looked on like nothing had happened. They were joking with each other, taking photos, no member of staff was vaguely interested in the persons wellbeing. Had this man had been more ill than he was I would have been very worried for his safety.

This airport is not fit for purpose.
Check in staff, border control and security all equally unhelpful and at times clueless. Not sure I could visit Sharm again simply as the airport is so awful.

Myself and My partner travel often. we have visited many airports around the world and this airport is by far the worst we have attended.

The airport is filthy, the staff are rude abusive and aggressive. we witnessed them shout and scream and even throw an elderly ladies possessions across the floor. They have a very limited number of trays to pass through scanners and no organisation whatsoever. I expected a higher level of security due to the history of this country however most of the staff and police were asleep on post. Many of the staff not in uniform or displaying name badges so you don't know who is searching you or if they even work at the airport.

The toilet facilities are un useable as they are filthy.

Its a real shame as Sharm El Sheik has worked very hard to improve and the hotel/resort we stayed at was fantastic and we would love to return. But we will not put our children or ourselves through such an awful experience ever again. I would actively encourage all airlines to refrain from flying to this airport until they can demonstrate improvements

Good people, stay away from this country. You gonna leave disgust. Insteed of speding a single pound here, better you go to a different country. I wasn't allowed to Fly, becouse my boarding pass was on my Phone and not on a piece of piper. This people still leave on the Times of The pharaons. The manager of The Airport is the most unexperinced one I ever seen in my life, he should go with the goats on the Mountains. I managed to buy a different flight next Day and escape from there and once I was in the air I thanks God and I said, never Again in an arabic and poor country. I have enough!

When boarding the bus which takes us to the plane my mother has fallen down on the ground due to the bus step being high up to get onto it resulting her in hurting her head, back and lower body.

My mum started to feel dizzy and a lot of pain in her body, resulting in her having a panic attack as she had a broken back before which resulted in long-term therapy.

As the assistant came, I was told I either cancel my flight and I would stay in Egypt and they will get me to see a medic or go on the plane.

As we are in a foreign country, we told them “ We need to be on that plane as we have no other option but to stay here” which airport staff told us we get a hotel and rebook onto the next flight but we still decided to fly but told the staff my mum needs assistance when getting up.

In this instance, they were happy to help my mum get onto the plane but then the aeroplane Capitan came out and asked what was wrong ? to which I replied that my mother has fallen down but she was happy to fly in which then the captain said that he won't let us into the plane due to my mum needing to see a medic in which again my mother has fallen into a deeper panic attack as the Capitan just laughed at us and didn’t allow us to get on the plane even though we begged him to go on it as we had to be in London for the next day and now thanks to him I'm about to lose my job and even more funds.

The airport staff has been really rude to us saying it was not looking good for us and that we going to get beaten up and arrested. They took all our passports and treated like us garbage when all we needed is to see a medic. We got assured that if we get off the plane and did not go on it we will get a medic “ I get you a medic” as my mother was in big pain and started to cry and feeling dizzy they swore at us in Arabic and claiming that we were drunk which is really offensive to us as we are religious and don’t drink.

When arrived back at the terminal again I was told “we going to get you a medic”.

20 minutes later all they did was fill in a late departure form, took our passports and treated us like prisoners and offenders which again we got promised when we get off we get a hotel, rebooking and medic which was the most important.

As my mum got into a wheelchair, they took us to the departures area and we all started to leave I asked if the medic coming or who will rebook my ticket just to be told “ go back to a hotel and see a medic there or go hospital we don’t care” followed by more swearing in Arabic and then telling me if I want to fly they cancelled my ticket so I need to buy a new one at my own cost. So I have just been left like that at the airport.

I have called Wizz air customer service which cost me £28 just to be told they can't do anything now but if I get receipts for all costs I will get my money back when filling out an online form.

I am looking to take further actions against WizzAir and the airport staff with my solicitor if necessary due to the condition of my mother's health having worsened due to not being provided a medic even though we got promised we get one asap.

Police are completely clueless on what is allowed to go on hand luggage and what on checked luggage. Lacking basic training and common sense. Even worse than any passenger that have travelled once in their life.
I was flying out from SSH and I had quite a few lithium batteries in my hand luggage as this is standard on ALL airlines in the world. Yet the police insisted that I put the batteries in my checked luggage, endangering the entire flight. I had to ask help from the airline at the checkin counter who then went to speak to the police and negotiated(!!!) with them so I could take them in hand luggage.
Uneducated police officers who think they know better are dangerous to humanity and driving progress backwards. Every country has a few but it would be better for everyone if the country sends them to write parking fines instead of endangering people out of ignorance and cluelessness.

I would first like to say that staff mostly were very friendly and helpful and that the whole check in process was smooth. However, two of the security staff made inappropriate comments about my appearance and one asked if I had a boyfriend, this was in front of their colleagues. I wanted to make management aware and suggest that some awareness raising take place with male members of staff around the treatment of solo female travellers.

Dear Airport Management
In January of this year, we visited Sharm el-Sheikh for the first time and flew to Tashkent through this airport on February 18, 2022. The airport staff were very impolite and rude. There were 10 of us and in the process of transferring personal luggage, the airport staff did not issue a document confirming the delivery of one suitcase. In our haste, we didn't notice it. As a result, my suitcase with my things was left at the airport due to the fault of these employees. So far there is no feedback and we cannot receive our items. Therefore, I ask you to pay attention to my appeal and help in solving my problem of returning my things.

I am a very experienced traveler, but the behavior of the staff at this airport is unacceptable.

- I am traveling with labeled powdered dietary supplements and the security staff literally put his bare finger inside the jar and licked it afterwards. Unhygienic, especially during Covid. It was expensive, and I now have to throw it away because he stirred it with his bare finger, not even using disinfection. Normal people would shake some powder onto the palm of their hand, and then taste it, to not contaminate the whole content.

- The toilet keeper woman in the toilet of gate 1-4 harassed me. She wanted money even though toilets are free. I didn't have any pounds left, since I was leaving the country. She then blocked the exit, so I couldn't leave the toilet.

- they took my standard AAA batteries even though they are allowed

- at arrival the officer didn't explain the fingerprint device properly. He then yelled at me as it didn't work, and grabbed my hand brutally and guided it through the device. As if that wasn't enough, he put the wrong Visa Stamp in my passport. Only 14 days instead of 1 month, even though I paid for a one - month visa. Which caused problems with the authorities afterwards.

I understand that the situation when you have to run through 300-400 passengers is stressful, but as I was going through the initial security on our way back with my 5 y.o. son the security person started yelling something at me and was very aggressive in a language that I don't understand (therefore can't really change something he's frustrated about). Turns out that despite a video guide above him that said I should not take off the belt not to hold up the line I should have taken off the belt. He yelled at me untill I somehow figured it out as my son watched us all stressed. Then when I went through the metal detector and he searched me he yelled at my son who was already pretty scared. As he went through the metal detector I tried to calm him down and the security guy flipped out again yelling at me grabbing the kid, staring at me for 20 seconds (intimidation technique?) and then yelling again. He than searched the kid and let us go. Never in my life (and I've traveled to many countries including Middle East) I've felt like in a freaking prison. Had to then explain to the kid that it was misunderstanding and the person is probably stressed. So unprofessional that I don't even have words. First an dlast time me and my family went to Sharm el-Sheikh.

Hi,
My holiday was quite ok, however the non rules for smoking in public areas was quite iritating all the time. However most terrible was ir SharmElSheih airport terminal 2. I have seen more than 100 airports in the world, but even in west Africa like Angola, Congo the smoking zones are separated. In SharmElSheih airport terminal 2 you have to sit and wait in same room with smokers. It was most terrible airport (relating to smoking) I have seen. One side of terminal is smoking area, other side non smoking. But all terminal smells as smoking area and small children has to breath it aa well. And nobody to who complain. ..... waiting and smelling it for and hour quite ruined my mood for that day. However, what to complain, have to remember what country you are :-D. Will not cotinue, otherwise it will be to rude.

Im a dutch citizen and we travelled yesterday through Sharm El Sheikh airport.

I must first say that we had thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Egypt and had lots of fun in Sharm except for the last episode at the airport.

An employee at the bazar shop at the airport called my 7 years old daughter sexy, and started to verbally insult me for trying to avoid conversation with him and trying to pay and leave.

A minute later he gets airport security and starts screaming at me in front of my children and tells the police that i was insulting Egypt.

The police asked me and my family to join them which was extremely inconvenient and ended up filing a report and taking a copy of my passport.

We were stressed, my kids and i were extremely shocked and traumatized. A man double my size was attacking me and screaming at me in front of my children.

He decided to apologize to my husband, because he clearly couldn’t handle talking to a woman.

I was surprised that someone like this was allowed to work at an airport and interact with people, his communication style and attitude were all unacceptable.

For a lovely country like Egypt with a very friendly culture, and despite our lovely time during our holiday we were under a huge stress and i didn’t appreciate being dragged to a police center to make a report. I don’t feel safe to go back to that airport.

My review might be useful for parents travelling with children.
Recently we came back from a vacation in Egypt. It was my first trip to this country.
Well, I should say it was also my worst experience regarding airport/boarder guard/security ever. I consider myself an experienced traveler (different countries, airports, since I was 16).
However, this place – SSH, is outstanding of all previous experience.
People may say that extensive checks make them feel secure. Alight, but in this airport the procedures are extremely stressful and make you actually not feel secure. In my opinion, yes, you can check a person thoroughly on the entrance, after that if the airport area is secure, it should not be allowed to scan and check as well as humiliate a person perpetually. I cannot even remember the number of times I was requested to show a passport. Two body exams also make you feel abused (even though it was performed by a female).
Airport staff was mainly rude and aggressive, treating people like cattle in a lair. They resemble more of prison guards, rather than some sort of officers.
However, the biggest surprise was expecting us (me, my mother and daughter) at the check-in counter. We were not the last passengers in the line. However, we received boarding passes in three completely different rows, 14, 19 and 30. My daughter is 6 years old. As far as I know, the system does not allow seating a minor without a chaperone or a parent. However, for this airport staff it was really logical that my child was supposed to sit by the window accompanied by three strange man during almost a 4 hour flight, while I was seated 5 rows behind her on the opposite side of the plane. I would understand if they have seated one of the adults apart, but at least one person should have been seated with the child. I did not complain about the row, or the window seat, neither extra legroom, by no means. My one and only request was to be seated next to my child. However, there was a tremendous wall of non-understanding, indifference and inhumanity. Pleading, requiring a manager or supervisor, claims, did not have a slight effect. The person who was pretending, I guess, to be an airport official, said that I should address my concern to the airport in the country of destination. Or ask the aircraft staff to change the seats on board. I should admit that airport check-in counter staff is actually useless.
The same thing happened to other families traveling with us with even smaller children on this flight.
I cannot even describe what a stress it was to me. Never ever, I have had such an experience.
Thank God, the passengers were more understanding and we exchanged places, so that I could sit next to daughter. My mother still had a different seat, which she also exchanged with a family with small children who were seated separately as well.
When I told this story to my sister (who works at the check-in counter at the airport in our country) and showed her boarding passes, she was astonished, saying that if someone in our airport would do such a thing, this person would have been punished severely.
I am usually a calm, understanding person. I have experience in customer support job, businesses with people in my country and overseas of different cultures and views, however, this is the first time in my life I have had such a stress and discomfort and non-tolerance.
The vacation we spent in a nice hotel, peaceful place with good people has not been ruined, although it has been overshadowed by this very unpleasant and disturbing occurrence.
I am not sure whether I will be eager to come back to this country in the nearest future or suggest spending vacation there to my friends, relatives or acquaintances.
I really hope that such attitude towards tourists changes eventually to a polite and friendly one.

Veri dirty and poor airport.

Ridicoulsy scamming is taking place, toilet-box doors are marked with labels " out of order" but they actually work. After long que has formed, old muslim cleaners will ask 1 eur - meaning they will take label off and you can still visit the toilet as it is not out of order. But you have to pay to them. At the same tim 25 people are in order waiting.

I'd like anybody from the administration to buy a cup of hot water and a packet of lipton tea for three dollars. What would they say?

In general I had a good experience with the airport SSH. But I had big problems with the security staff as I transported a big battery for a dive lamp in my luggage.

This battery (LiIO with 111Wh) was pre-registered at the airline and I had a written confirmation to be allowed to carry it in the carry-on luggage (only there).

All followed the IATA regulations in regards of pre-registration at airline, packaging and protection of the battery.

I could enter the airport and wasn't stopped by first x-ray screening.

I informed the check-in staff of the airline about this battery and showed them the written confirmation of the airline to transport this battery in the carry-on.

I could proceed to the final security check, where they stopped me. Next was an endless discussion with the head of security. He told me, I am NOT allowed to carry this battery at all. However, he was wrong with this. Based on the IATA regulations (LiIO battery size 100-160Wh) and based on the written confirmation of the airline I am allowed to carry this battery and it need to be stored in the carry-on luggage only.

Finally and thanks to the duty station manager of Germania Airline, he could convince the head of security to hand over my battery directly to the crew of the airplane. Those handed the battery back to me at my destination airport.

Same day and during other days fellow divers flew with the identical battery without being stopped and without issues!

First: Security staff should follow ONE standard. Why I got stopped and other travellers with identical items not?

Second: Head of security along with his staff shall be trained in regards of IATA standards of dangerous item carry-on, particularly batteries.

Third: Discussions shall not be done as rude as I had to meet with.

Forth: Please advise how to avoid such incidences in future! I have plans to fly to SSH again with identical items. Again pre-registered at the airline. But what to do if the airport staff follow their own rules again?

I have been travelling to and from Sharm airport for the pas 12 years, twice a year, and I have found the airport to be user friendly and the Staff extremely courteous. I also have used the toilets which were clean and have never been harassed by staff to give an English pound for the use - maybe we should consider those passengers using the toilets appropriately re cleanliness. I am really surprised to read some of the experiences. I read where folk are being almost forced into purchasing Visas - certainly not the case for me or my husband and when I needed a Visa I bought one, no pressure!!
I also rescued an African Wildcat kitten and it had to be taken by plane from Sharm to Cairo to proceed to UK - the Staff at Sharm were very helpful once more and helped us so much with Minnie the kitten who now lives in Ireland. I really would like to say that the Staff at Sharm have always been very nice to us - the conditions perfectly ok - the price of the food expensive - but we have the exact same problem in our Airports. I will be happy to learn that the security in Sharm is upgraded - maybe like we have in Belfast - to enable me to return in 2016

Ive been through sharm airport many times in the last few years, the last time in September this year.
Here's a few tips for when the uk starts flying there again.
Flying from the uk.
When you get off the plane and head up the escalator towards passport control you will be herded towards various booths on the left to get a visa.
Firstly, you only need a visa if your going to leave sharm which for most people that's not the case.
I've been coming here for a number of years, sometimes 5 times in a year.
I've done all the trips, diving etc.Never have I been asked for a visa!
Secondly,if you still feel you need a visa, avoid being herded to the booths on the left.Just ignore the reps etc that are trying to sound official and walk another 20 yards and on the left will be a single official sitting in what looks like a doorway.
He is the official visa officer and his visa is about a tenner less than what you pay the touts at the top of the escalator.
When you've been through passport control head towards the luggage carousel as your luggage will probably already be going around it.
That's one thing their pretty quick on.
Make sure you've already arranged travel to your hotel as the cab drivers are pretty ruthless and to be avoided.
If you haven't,have a word with one of the many reps hanging around and chances are they will contact your hotel for you to arrange for you to be collected.
Again avoid the cabs outside.
Now you've had a great holiday and now your back at the airport waiting to go home.
There are two main things that you need to do before arriving.
Firstly bring a pen or pencil to fill in your exit card after you've checked in.
There are no pens or pencils available and it's a case of beg borrow or steal.
Secondly and more importantly, make sure you've been to the toilet!!
The toilets at sharm are a new low in airport loos.
The men's toilet usually has around 2 inches deep of liquid on the floor.Ill let you make up your own minds what that liquid is!
I've been told the ladies is pretty similar.
You will also be harrased by the toilet staff begging for money when you try to wash your hands.A polite but firm no usually does the trick, but when that doesn't work a nasty glare does the trick.
As a rule the staff running the concessions are a pretty surly lot and probably work on the principle that they won't be seeing you again anytime soon.
These last couple of points are quite a shame as most Egyptians that you meet while your there are very helpful and eager to please.
Obviously at the time of writing, flights are currently suspended.
But sooner or later it will all go back to normal and nothing will change other than hopefully the security.
Sharm is a nice place to visit and the people there genuinely do like the English so it would be a shame to give it a wide berth because of one possibly terrorist incident and the rants of people who have never been there ,on the various Internet forums.

My stay in Sharm-El-Shiek was excellent....service, food,Egyptian people. Local shopping Etc:....One of my most favourite countries to have visited up to date. Sometimes people from the West complain regardless....However I am sorry for any discomfort people are suffering due to recent events. Take care all of you.

A few years ago I was stranded at Hurghada Airport when a Thomas Cook plane developed a fault. They sent us to a hotel overnight and then took us back to the airport the next day, even though the plane had not been repaired. We spent a 2nd day at the airport before being sent back to the same hotel for another night. Thomas Cook blamed the authorities for not allowing us to stay at the hotel on the 2nd day but it is obvious to me that they had a deal with the hotel which didn't include our being there all day, eating and drinking at their expense. I would suggest to passengers stuck at Sharm to refuse to leave the hotel until they know they have a flight - even if they have to pay for their own food etc.

Hello. I have not been to Egypt yet. Just going to... But really scared because I think that there is not enough security provided in the airport. In the light of the tragedy with Russian plane crush, I think that the airport employees should carefully check planes for anything... using specially trained dogs. Each plane should be checked, especially its cargo deck. Such actions may prevent tragedies from occuring. Moreover, if all proactive measures are taken, the possibility of carrying any dangerous or explosive substances on board will be excluded. Thank you.

On November 1st 2015 I shall visit Egypt for the 14th time and I shall go to Sharm-el-Sheikh.
I need to contact URGENTLY the Sharm-el-Sheikh Airport Check-in Manager and from 2 days I am calling almost 25 times in different times (!!!!!!!!) the Sharm-el-Sheikh phone numbers (from the website): +20 69 3623304 - +20 69 3623305 (Operator) - +20 69 360 1140 (Passenger Service) but anybody NEVER answer !!!!!!!!!!!!I am very disappointed from this lack of organization! Why this barrier insurmountable? The same happened on December 2013 with Hurghada Airport!
Please can you write me the direct number of the Check-in Manager?
Why these phone numbers if nobody answer?

Even though lots of the reviews warned me what I could expect. It was nothing compared to the carnage of 15 flights all trying to get through this airport. Queues went out of the main doors to get through the first baggage scan. Then the luggage check in was equally bad. 2 flights for Gatwick and Dublin were almost missed by people as the lines moved too slowly. At one point people on those flights were told to swap to a different queue to get processed straight away and the attendant behind that desk then walked off and never came back leaving people stranded.

Duty free is still closed and most of the shops are selling things at odd prices so they dont have to give you any change.

The staff are ignorant, I was picked randomly for a check as we went to board the plane and I had 2 tablets which were never looked at so what was the point of that?

A truly shocking experience that makes a great laughing piece to tell your friends about but reflects very badly on the airport authority.

My wife and I were obviously very lucky when we travelled from Sharm back to the UK mid-afternoon on Monday April 27th, 2015. The security queues moved smoothly although I was brusquely rushed (I am a pensioner) as I put my items into the tray, including phone, ipad, binocculars and camera, all of which reappeared without problem. The toilets, male and female were clean. I bought my wife a capuccino with Egyptian currency and the prices were clearly marked, and a receipt given. Other passengers bought cans of beer and water with UK coins without problems.Embarkation was via a UK "post office type" queuing system, although slow, worked smoothly. As I say, maybe we were lucky, as there were only 3 other UK flights departing around that time. It may be that in the evening it's more congested with more flights, , but I can only speak from this one experience, and based on this, we'll be back.

I have travelled the world and been to many airports but nothing compares to the shambles at Sharm. The so called disabled assistance demanded £20 (~ 200 EGP)for any assistance for my disabled daughter in her wheelchair. I put my bag and iphone through the scanner (no boxes for individual items) and I saw the iphone picked up by a member of staff at the other end of the scanner while I was going through. When I asked him he denied all knowledge of having my phone! I did not get it back. Once through to Departures I was charged £18.30 for 1 can of Egyptian beer and a bottle of water at the upper crust food outlet and the cashier put some money in the till and the rest under the counter. We had to wait at the disabled toilets until the cleaner finished his cigarette in there and then it was absolutely disgusting, not cleaned at all, just smelling of smoke. Women are treated like 2nd class citizens. I spoke to other people at the airport and they said they would not come back to Egypt because of the airport experience. At my hotel, the staff had asked me where all the English tourists had gone as there were not so many this year - well the reason to me is clear - they will not tolerate the airport experiences received at Sharm. It was truly disgusting behaviour and we will book elsewhere for our next holiday.

Be careful of buying anything from the café/shop near gate 5. There are no prices on anything and I was charged 14 USD for a bottle of water and a box of Pringles. I would not normally have paid but my children were hungry and thirsty. The guy on the till was deliberately trying to not let me see the amount and I noticed that when he took the money he put it under the till drawer not in it. No doubt his little scam. Also, in the duty free I bought some cigarettes and then decided to buy some more. The second time they guy tried to charge me more than the first! My wife and daughters also said that the ladies toilets were truly disgusting! Thankfully, I don't plan to use this airport again.

I fly to sharm every year for a 3 week family holiday and always land around 8-9pm, my question is ...why do the guys selling visas get away with over charging? There is a missive sign saying visas $25 but I have always been charged at least $30 each. When you question this you are simply told this is w correct price, basically lied to. Not a big issue but Aldo jog a great "welcome to Egyptp".

Had a great holiday in Sharm but this airport is very poor (the staff in particular).

We flew from Sharm last evening (15/12/14 at 6.40pm) and I bought some drinks and a few snacks from one of the vendors (Youseff next to Upper Crust next to Gate 5 in Terminal 1). He ignored me for about a minute while playing on his phone and then rudely asked what I wanted (I just wanted to pay for the items I had already picked up). He overcharged for everything but as I had Egyptian pounds left over I didn't really care. My girlfriend then asked if she could also have some chewing gum (which Youseff has charged me 10 Egyptian pounds for on my first visit). I went back with 10 pounds to buy another pack only for Youseff to tell me that it now cost 20. When I asked him why the price changes he started to shout at me and asked me to leave. Honestly the rudest man I have ever been served by. I can only assume his Dad is senior at the airport as there is no way he would get the job on merit.

We had stayed at the Stella di Mare hotel where all the staff were excellent so that made Youseff and his non existent customer service all the more surprising.

Just back from Sharm, like the other people commenting I also found the ladies toilets to be vile! Worst toilets ever seen at an airport, blocked, flushes not working, no hand towels, strong smell of urine and wet walls and cubicles. A grumpy woman outside the toilets shouting at people to wait until she said you could go in!

Duty free shop only takes cash but luckily we were aloud to pay at the jewellery section.

A stressful & uncomfortable experience.

I would like to express my total disgust at the condition of your so called new airport, I flew back to the UK from there on the 14th Sept 14, and I couldn't believe the state of the place, the toilets are unfit for human use, and the fat lazy woman who should be cleaning them has an obnoxious attitude and sits on her backside while the toilets are overflowing. Also the chaos of the duty free is outrageous we were told we could not take our hand luggage into the shop and we had to leave it outside, where anyone could take it, or even worse put something illegal inside it, yours is the only airport in the world where you are told to leave your luggage unattended. We were so put off by your airport it has put us off returning to Sharm.

Same as everyone else the toilets we're disgusting, the paper hand towel dispenser was just hanging there, one decent tug and it would have been on the floor, but my main problem is the security staff taking my Disabled Husband walking stick off him and not allowing him on the plane with it, they insisted it was left there, what they we're going to do with it I have no idea but I believe that is discriminating against the disabled even though it states you are disabled friendly!!! I think not, I also believe you have broken a law by doing this and I am contacting the embassy as I emailed your customer help line and am still waiting for a reply, never again will I use this airport, absolutely disgraceful

Flight 10.25PM Thompsons Newcastle Friday 5th September 2014.After going through all the security checks to get to the Departure Lounge and deciding to use the mens toilet near gate 5,
I was shocked to find 2 toilet attendants asking for £1.00 english pound so that you could wash and dry your hands???
While sitting outside I watched them follow every man into the toilet and wait for them and ask for money, what a scam!!they would then approach people to ask to change all pound coins for £10.00 notes. They must have been making £40.00 per hour. As soon as they saw any official person they would stop then carry on scamming money from people in this Secure area, they were dressed in Blue t shirts and one had removed his ID tag around his neck, another in a Red t shirt also kept watch. I am so Discusted with this behavier as it would NEVER happen in the UK.

Thank u so much for ur comment ,I’m very happy coz u had a fabulous holiday in sharm el-sheikh,so,let’s talk about ur complaint from sharm el-sheikh airport.
At the beginning most of ur complaint I’m very sure will not happen again and ill tell u y I’m saying tht:-
1-Due to hiring new duty free in terminal 2 and doing air conditioner Maintenance project ,we just operated it only for arrival cuz the new duty free company will be ready for the passenger I think at October 2014,so we can say tht we just using only one terminal for all departure flights,it just temporary situation till the new duty free be ready to work inside terminal 2.
2- When we talking about x ray and the security inside our airport, I will tell the airport authority about ur complaint Although, ur complaint not official coz this website not the official website for sharm el-sheikh international airport.
3-ur complaints about (dirty toilets pls read my previous comments about the cleaning company ).
4-Finally I wanna Explain some information for u, no way any aircraft left on the run way for an hour!!!! Never happened at any airport all over the world, also I wanna tell u tht any runway used only for aircraft take off and landing, push back tugs only used on aircraft stands and we can’t use the push back tugs on the runway unless if the aircraft have technical problem on the runway and can’t move away from the runway.
5-When we talking about (radio communication) I don’t think so tht the pilot couldn't contact anyone,it’s impossible coz there’s radio connection between the pilot and ATC all the time.
If u remember ur flight number or any information about ur flight pls tell us about it to make deep investigation about ur complaint.

Sharm el-sheikh airport hiring cleaning company , if airport authority notice any bad behavior of cleaning company staff , we force the cleaning company to fire anyone do anything bad for passengers like( asking tips) , because it’s not allowed in sharm el-sheikh airport and it’s very rude behavior to asking tips.
About dirty toilets , airport authority watching and observe all the airport cleanliness every hour, and pushing the cleaning company to make sure tht every place in the airport espically toilets very clean without any bad smells, any way if the airport authority gets any official complaints from any passenger related to ( airport cleanliness ) be sure the cleaning hiring company gets big penalties.

I have just ruturned back in the uk from sharm,we had a fabulous holiday but was put off ever returning due to sharm airport!!! The airport was extremely busy with lots of flights due to depart at similar to times, the queue for the x rays and check in was out of the airport, anyone could have smuggled anything on the flights as they were so busy, no one was checking anything despite the alarms going off all the time, they were just too busy and under staffed. There is no excuse for the state of the toilets, the worst I have ever experienced, even the one in Cairo were better, there was a lady outside as per most loos I'm Egypt wanting tips or payment for loo paper etc - why wasn't she cleaning!!! Vile doesn't one close. Once we boarded the plane we were left on the run way for an hour, as there wasn't enough push back tugs, they do not have radios so the pilot couldn't even contact anyone from the airport, we had to sit there and hope they hadn't forgotten us - will not be returning. Due to this experience, I have been to poorer counties with better loos

Arrived at Terminal 2 Departures on 26 Jun 2014, and the Duty Free was Closed, my Parents were verbally abused by one of your cleaning staff whilst trying to eat their meal at the table, and I got food poisoning from the 'microwaved' burger at the only place that hot food was available.
The whole experience was disgusting, and having flown from Terminal 1 in November without problems, I will ensure I change my flight plans in future to ensure I never travel from this Terminal 2 again!

Hi,

Like many comments I have read, I would like to complain about the disgusting toilets at the airport. Most females walked in and straight out again. You could not breathe due to the smell of urine. There was soil on the toilet doors and splashed around most of the full, blocked toilets. The worst toilets I have ever seen. I had to get changed for my flight and that was bad enough but would not use them and waited until we were on the plane.

A toilet attendant was sitting outside the ladies toilets (presumably because she wouldn't have been able to sit inside due to the smell), I never saw her in them or anyone cleaning away the mess.

I hope the airport management take notice of customer's comments as we had a lovely holiday in Sharm but this spoiled the end

I hope they take noti

I was expectimg the "new" terminal to be great with plenty of facilities - such a let down. yes check-in was fast and security was ok, but the toilets were just filthy and so few of them - 15 mins queue for my wife and daughter in what can only be classed as the most smelliest and unclean toilets we have ever seen - and in the Gents toilets they were asking for money for a hand towel.

Duty Free had 2 tills open and only accepted cash - people were leaving their shopping on the floor having to leave departures - go out and get cash from arrivals - come back in and then queue to pay. Very rude till staff who would not provide receipts - thoroughly unpleasant experience.

This is a lovely building but the facilities let it down so much!

I would like to know if anybody else has been lied to by the staff in the duty free at sharm el sheikh airport .i was told by a member of staff that if you did not buy spirits you could double the amount of cigarettes . I questioned this and he assured me that it was correct .on arrival at gatwick airport the cigarettes were taken and I was told this was not true I am very annoyed that they can tell people lies just to make more money

I have recently returned from a wonderful holiday in Sharm El Sheikh, and have been there many times, but i have to say i was extermely dissapointed in the condition of Terminal 1 on my departure on Monday 12th May, 2014.

Firstly, I would like to complain of the cleanliness of the terminal itself, I have to say it was filthy, not normally like this, and also we booked the lounge, which was appauling, it was far better in the main departure lounge than it was up there it was also very dirty and where was the food and drink that was shown to be available.

After waiting around 45 mins for somebody to come were were then offered a drink and a sandwich which the person went downstairs to get and when it arrived we were unable to eat the food it was disgusting, and stale. We were given a can of lemonade then the fridge was locked. We paid £44 british pounds for this and regularly use these lounges in britain which are always extremely good.

I feel that you are totally mis selling this lounge and will be putting a review on Trip Advisor advising people not to book as they being totally misled and ripped off!!!

I have also been in touch with Holiday Extras to request a full refund and I hope that they take your terminal lounge off their booking details as i do hope nobody else has the same experience.

On the last note i would also like to complain of the condition of the ladies toilets. They were again filthy and could pose as a health problem as none of the toilets flushed, and a long queue of women waiting in a smelly toilet was not pleasant i have to say.

I was in sharm el sheikh in march 2014 have had a few holidays in sharm the only complaint is the airport flew from Scotland to sharm was taken by bus from the departure lounge to the plane driver sitting at the plane with all the passengers stuck on the bus wouldn't open the doors as he was talking to someone its stuffy enough on these buses and crowded without the doors not being opened would be easier if they just opened the doors as soon as you get to the plane also when you arrive

Good afternoon!
Now there was an unpleasant situation with regular flights from Egypt to Russia, to the middle of May sellers tickets have no tickets for regular flights.
There are tickets on Transaero site on about 500 dollars, in Egypt now with work badly, tourists aren't present, we aren't able to afford to buy such expensive tickets.
There are charter flights, planes thin fly every day, free there is a lot of tickets, but... those who are in the territory of Egypt more than one month, can't take off on them. Can, but with the permission of the chief of the airport more true, and it gives out them very selective to someone gives, and to someone isn't present.
We came today with the husband, I am pregnant (the term of 5 months) and there is a small child-1 year, I am the citizen of Russia, there is a resident visa in Egypt for 5 years. Tickets were necessary to me and the daughter. To us refused and recommended to fly through Istanbul. With change, the pregnant woman and with the small child. Great. Because it rules.
But rules exist not for all people.
Thus quite to themselves healthy and not pregnant young men and resident female fly charters from Egypt, and some is constant. How at them it turns out to get this permission? The necessary acquaintances at the airport or luck? Riddle....

Having read many of the horror stories on here.I was expecting the worst. Arriving on the 24th March 2014 It was a very short coach ride from the aircraft to the terminal. In the terminal there was a well organised queue for passport control which was quick and easy. Baggage arrived very shortly after clearing passport control. Very impressed with the airport.
I travelled home on the 31st March 2014 Again very organised queues for security and passport control.
It is good to see that the airport has listened to comments and acted on them would gladly fly into and out of here if it's like this everytime.

Hi, I had a horrible experience yesterday, that brought me to tears after 12 hours of travel with a tired 7 years old.I am Romanian and I have got Egyptian nationality, I live in Sharm from 2006.I can't write Arabic thou, so everytime I go out/in Egypt, I write the card for Egyptians in English and the officer writes it in Arabic.Yesterday morning at 3 am, the officer gave me the documents back and sent me to find someone to write it for me - I had the child, luggages, very tired, went back to ask somebody to do it for me.After all this, I came back to two huge queus , because just 2 officers !!!!!Sharm supposed to be a touristic destination ??? Why then you don't have 6-7 officers working in the same time when it is busy ? And what it is the legal procedure when people like me with double nationality who don't write Arabic come to the checking point ?It was the worst experience of my life, if I would be a tourist I would never come again in this country !

We recently arrived back to the UK after 2 weeks in Sharm having been there 6 times before. On this occasion we were absolutely disgusted at the extent airport staff will go to to make money. I have every intension to notify the embassy and escalate this complaint based on principle!

On our arrival we were forced into a que to to buy visa's dispite being advised by our tour operator that they were not needed if not leaving Sharm. The airport staff told us We were told we were not allowed to leave our hotel if we had not bought one. There was so much conflicting information depending on who we spoke to, some said children were free, others were charging, they were charging various amounts depending of currency and method of payment - it was a disgrace! The manner was arrogant and rude and we were shifted from pillar to post despite an exhausted child with us. The toilets were disgusting and were desperate to get out so paid for the visa's we know now that we did not need (a total of £50). Having paid £65 for a speedy shuttle to the hotel we were waiting over an hour with no advice as to how long they would be so had to pay extra for a private transfer, again we were met by very rude unhelpful staff.

On our return we were initially greeted by pleasant staff at the check in desk only to find a similar scam at duty free. I tried to purchase some items with card but was told it was cash only as their machines went down ( I later came to know this was the case with everyone who returned from sharm this month - doubt its a coincidence somehow). The only way I could purchase the items was to give my passport to a man who would allow me out to get cash from a cash machine in the arrivals lounge. I asked the cashier before I left how much was due in Egyptian pounds ( as the prices were all in dollars) knowing that's what I could get from the machine and returned with the cash in a rush as the flight was about to board and I had a sick child with me. I was then horrified to later realise that I was charged double the amount!! Not only that, the guy that was holding my passport also asked for a tip!

My biggest concern is what they are doing to sell the visa's with all the varying information. It has always been a delight to visit Egypt in the past but the Egypt that I knew and loved is now gone - it has become a disgrace and the people have become arrogant and extortionate! We even got insulted by a market man as we did not buy an item we never wanted to buy in the first place - he was abusive, racist and highly aggressive.

Unfortunately I will not be returning to Egypt again and would not recommend it to anyone as I have done previously - Egypt's definitely not the same as it once was!

Travelled many places, sadly Sharm airport is the worst, and I have used it 3 times. Staff at entry and departure are unfriendly and hostile in some instances. Love Egypt, Hate this airport.
As a family we have spent our christmas holidays in Sharm for the past 5 years. This year I am sorry, but my wife just dosent want to face the total chaos that spoils our otherwise fantastic trip.
GET SOME ORGANISATION , GET STAFF WHO CARE .
Every year I've seen heated arguments between passengers as the queing systems at check in are so slow and information so poor.At one time there was even a fight, while queuing at passport control while security just looked on.
There are some lovely hotels in Sharm, we have had great holidays but its off to the Canary Islands for us this year

Well I went on holiday to sharm in 2012 with the family and we all said how nice and clean the toilets were some of the staff are pushy waiting to carry your bag for free but then wanting a tip at the end of it but was all good but I also think there needs to be more than two toilets in the airport but some good shops both for arrivals and departures. Has a good side and a poor side but not the poorest airport I've been too.

Just wanted to feedback the poor experience I had travelling through Sharm el Sheikh airport in June 2013.

Firstly the toilets on both arrival and departure were appalling. Please improve your cleaning process (perhaps a cleaning check every 30 mins like other airports?) so future passengers don't have to suffer. Also, maybe 1 toilet in arrivals and one in departures probably isn't enough for a airport handling as many passengers as SSH does. Please consider opening more.

Secondly, please provide free WiFi in the terminal buildings so passengers can access the Internet.

I would just like to say a very big thank you to all the workers for all their help when we travelled home last Sunday 22nd June 2013 at Sharm El-Sheikh airport, from the customs officers right through to the very kind chap who delivered us to our plane. My mother had a new hip replacement January 2013 and still needs a walking stick, is unable to stand or walk far or for long periods, steps are also a problem. Everyone was so helpful and went above and beyond to help us get her onto the plane. A wheelchair was provided for her and we were taken in a specially adapted people carrier, which had lifts back and front to put us on the plane. Your help was exceptional. Thank you from us both. *u say ( No air con in the airport ) im sure tht we have air con at Sharm el-Sheikh airport, may be Maintenance Department make some emergancy work on air condition system while u arrive at the terminal

But, we have hiring ( cleanning company ) and it have shorts of tissue paper I have to confess about it, but we as ( airport staff ) we pushing them to keep tissue paper all the day at the toielt as they can also we make report’s about this situation and they got big plenty
I wanna say last thing about tissue paper, any passenger can notice tht problem only at rush hour at the terminal ( I can guess, u faced tht situation on Sunday ) at terminal 2.
*U say (On the way back again madness prepare to wait in line for a long time to check in and passport control ) as usual each flight at sharm el-sheikh airport must have 2 check in counter but if the airline handeling agent have enough emplloye we can open more than 2 check in counter for flight ( I mean the line at chek in counter depanding on ur airline handling agent ) the other situation at passport control,, I think u face tht bad situation for many reason’s like at ur departure day the immigration officer was so slowly or new at his job or cuz the rush hour at our airport, or at tht day they have shorts, I knew it’s not ur buessines tht all reason’s and u only want good and fast service and that’s ur right

Yes, in common with everyone who has had the misfortune to pass through this hellhole, I had the same frustration.
No organisation at check in, everyone pointing you in different directions, and finally, in our cache sending our luggage to Manchester instead of Exeter.
We were told that Sharm el Sheik are "notorious" for losing luggage.
I am now convinced that, because we didn't bribe him he took revenge.
Maybe I am paranoid though.
For the love of God can someone not manage to organise that place?
I'm afraid I feel that because corruption is at the root of it, that there will not be any change.
Oh, and Christianophobia ,or Femophobia (my own coined words) are also a big problem.
I would not return to Egypt for all the tea in China.
I will stick to the tried and tested Med. areas, Spain cannot be bettered.

We felt that the ladies toilets in the departure lounge were absolutely disgusting! Bins overflowing with used tissues, dirty, wet floors, some doors not locking, smelly. The wheelchair toilet was cleaner but the door didn't lock, and there was a large sack full of used tissues.
The men's toilets fared no better, as the roof was hanging down, bits missing from the roof, toilet seat was hanging by one screw, and filthy, dirty walls and handbasins.
It seemed that there was no maintenance programme in place for either toilets.

I have traveled to Sharm on three different occasions. I must agree that at times it can be very confusing, however on my last visit it was a pleasure. On arrival the airport was quiet, and we found our way without issue. On departure it only took about 35 mins to get through check-in and security checks. Staff were pleasant and helpful.

British citizens please be careful when travelling to Egypt if you're passport only has a short date left on it. You may be able to enter the country but you will not be able to leave the UK if your passport does not have 6 months left on it from the date you return. So if your passport only has 5 months remaining the check in staff will not be able to check you in for your departure from the UK.

At Sharm Airport on this day. This was my second visa,as I first entered Egypt on 12 July, and traveled through Jordan and Israel, and then crossed from Eilat on August 11 to climb Mount Sinai. As stated before,I was given a St Caterines and Aqaba coast pass, and told to get my Visa at Sharm El Sheikh Airport. And when I paid my US 15.00 I naturally assumed I would be permitted to fly home to join my family. But this was not to be.A Spanish couple and me were forced to make a long and somewhat dangerous journey back to Taba, arriving 1:30am just to get a stamp thaat could have been issued by the Officer in Charge at Sharm El Sheikh. To ad insult to injury,a security officer placed his hand over my left hand and said listen to me,stealing my loose Wedding Ring. And of course, when I realised it was missing it was too late to complain-that would have made things even worse than they were.
I am considering reporting all this to the Egyptian Embassy.Probably nothing wqould be done anyway.

The officer in charge of customs and immigration is running a scam in co-operation with Taba Border Control and Egypt Air:Independent travelers are told at the Taba Border, when crossing from Israel that they cannot be issued with a visa-when in fact it is a requirement that they obtain their visa there. They are told they must get a visa at Sharm El Sheikh Airport.I purchased a ticket to connect to my flight home from Cairo to Brisbane on July 16.My passport was checked by Air Egypt Office and Sharm El Sheikh. When departure time came I was told I needed a visa from Taba Border control,or I could pay US$400.00.A Spanish couple had the same problem. The Officer in Charge-dressed in black-told me to go to Taba.and when I objected told me not to come back to Egypt. The information and adjacent tour desk told me they had a problem with this man a needed to get rid of him for the sake of the reputation of the Airport Operations. They asked me to make a complaint.

Some of the staff in this airport are extremely rude especially when getting suitcases of the coach, demanding tips isn't very polite and is less likely to make you want to give someone a tip. They practically held there hand out flashing a pound coin saying 'tips' 'tips' with angry looking faces and wouldn't help get your luggage unless you gave them a tip! It was very inappropriate. If they happily helped get bags etc we would of been and im sure everyone else would agree that you would be much more willing to tip someone. We were approached again in the same manner when a man put our cases onto the xray machines and was saying tips tips but politely said 'not to worry if not' which was much more polite and not so forceful.Everything else about this airport was fine and ran smoothly. Just felt these particular people made the end of the holiday stressful, pressuring us into tipping them and muttering under their breath when people didn't.

But if you are ill and need hospital beter travel Eilat and fly from OVDA. Spend the money you do not need for visa for extra service when you leave the Sinai us than Pearl Assist.

I have been using sharm international airport for the past 15 years, and yed, the new airport exceeds the old, however it is an absolute rip off in terms of price, and the toilets are awful, however overall you get the impression that they know what they are doing...wrong...delayed luggage was the problem, having filled in the appropriare reports, the member of staff who could not understand the words PINK WITH FLOWERS ALL OVER, described the lost suitcase as red on the international lost report...the Easyjet duty manager then compounded the problem, by refusing to change the description foe five days...why...we have no idea...just because he could, at one stage he refused to take a contents list to try to identify the lost luggage..i am fully aware that egypt is a third world country, but to run an international airport then some language skills, less rude staff, female staff who dont look at you as though you are scum, and effective communication skills would be a start...so disapointed...holiday distroyed

Had I seen the adverse comments about the airport before I had booked my holiday I would probably not have gone to SSL. However, unless the airport authorities have taken the staff to task very recently, I did not see any ofthe problems mentioned in a lot of the recent posts. The security staff were efficient and friendly and the choice and costs for food were on a par with most international airports. The toiltes were remarkably clean and once inside the terminal i didn't experience anyone asking for money as tips. However, outsie can be a bit of a problem with chancers gtrying to escort you the 20 yards to the tour bus. Just be firm and don't engage with them. Or you could go with the flow and it will cost you a bit of loose change. Overall I would rather travel through SSL than Heathrow! same for a

When departing from the airport you put your hand and hold baggage through a scanner then check your hold baggage in, go to passport area then another scanner for your hand baggage. Can someone tell me why they tried to take my hair straighteners off me ? i am a frequent flyer and no the rules (it also says on direct gov that you can take them) they refused to let me on with them but i was adamant i was not leaving without them (£45 they cost)2 people were trying to take them off me or i could go find me suitcase and put them in there !!! what a farse!! i still refused to hand them over and because i made a scene they let me through as if to say dont let everybody know what we are trying to do. i was so angry i just thought id let other people know just in case they try it with them.

We are due to travel tomorrow (05/06) to Sharm as a family of four and have just discovered that our sons passport expires on the 3rd May 2012!

I have spoken to Waheed in your Customers Service department who has verbally confirmed that he has checked with immigration at Sharm airport and they have confirmed that we are OK to travel.

However, I see from here that you have advised another traveller with less than two months on their passport CANNOT enter the country.

Can you please confirm what we can do?

Just back from Holiday in Sharm and have to say the airport was a joke. A guy sitting by the toilets looking for money to use the toilets and shouting at us as we passed. Grumpy staff and very annoying security staff following us around the duty free. My friends 200 cigarettes were stolen from her bag aswell and she we can only imagine that it happened in Sharm el Sheikh airport. It was like an airport form "father Ted".

It is very depressing to see the same comments coming up on this site which indicates that those who should care do not want to get up from their desk and see what is not happening at this airport. The airport is very pleasant in comparison with the old facilities say ten years ago but the malaise amongst some staff seems to be ingrained. The toilet facilities are obviously not up to the job and are constantly blocked. The design should be changed to accept the inevitable fact that most tourists put paper down the pan - fact of life. Then we move on to the subject of staffing where on Tuesday 31 Jan the lady attendant was in the normal position - that sat on a chair outside and ignoring (according to my wife) the appalling conditions inside the smell of urine was appalling. Apparently the button flush was very hard. The situation in the gents was as follows. There was a sign strategically positioned by the entrance indicating that the floor was slippery – which it certainly was. The reason for this was a young male who sploshed water all over the floor with a mop with a head that was almost black. The sink area top was awash with water. Moving on to the gents urinals one was blocked and the smell terrible. The floor in this area was filthy and had no mopping; I did not even attempt to use the other facilities. On the way out the young lad was pulling out paper towel from the dispenser in an effort to gain some sort of financial reward. I had a great holiday with good service and the loos in hotels or restaurants were in general fine and some cases excellent. The end of my holiday was tainted by two visits to the fetid gents where I judged it more hygienic NOT to wash my hands and used my own wet wipe. Come on the Egyptian tourist agency – this is not acceptable at an international airport. Let us leave with a fresh as opposed to fetid memory of Egypt!

Do you think it's acceptable to run an airport where a man follows both men & women in to the toilet & demands money for turning the tap on even though there is a huge sign saying tip? He did it for four hrs on Thursday when we were delayed & when we flew on Friday there was someone else there doing it. All he was bothered about was getting as much money as possible from people visiting Egypt whole doing as little as possible even if it meant intimidating men & women.
It's disgraceful.

Flew out of Sharm el Sheikh Airport last night (15 January) and prior to departure the airport was once again absolute and complete chaos. Even worse than when I flew back on 19 October 2011 when one of the airport staff; young man, probably aged between 18 and 22 with a thick black moustache, muttered obscenities whilst holding on to my passport, making it difficult for me to walk away.

This time, at the booths where you hand in your departure cards and get your departure stamp on your passport, at about 5.30pm, both my brother and I were stopped at the passport booth; the man at the booth held on to our passports and called over another member of staff. Unfortunately, I recognised the member of staff walking over immediately; it was the disgraceful young man that had held on to my passport on the previous trip. Our passports were handed over to him and we were told to follow him. We asked if there was a problem and we were told there was “no problem”. We had to follow him to three different booths where he spoke to each of the men within them in Arabic and then, he took us behind one of the booths out of sight and asked us for “dollars” for the return of our passports. When we refused and took our passports from him he became abusive and followed us around to the scanner.

This young man’s behaviour is disgusting and I’m sure that the majority of Egyptians, who are so hospitable and welcoming, would be utterly ashamed of this disgraceful young man. It is still not clear if there was a genuine query with our British passports, from which this young man saw an opportunity to take advantage, or whether there is a scam, involving several members of staff to get money from tourists. We would not tolerate the behaviour, but sadly, those who are more vulnerable or travelling alone may give in, in fear of not getting their passports back.

The systems in this airport are appalling in themselves, but the attitudes of staff – treating people like animals and using their authority to be obnoxious and intimidating is absolutely appalling. This really needs to be addressed by the airport’s management who also need to understand that the airport experience at Sharm el Sheikh alone is putting many people off from travelling there; or perhaps really they just don’t care.

Unfortunately, the young man who harassed me on two occasions did not have a name badge so we were unable to get a name but he is very distinctive looking; around 5.5” tall, dark features, thick black hair and a moustache. I have had the misfortune of experiencing his bad behaviour on two consecutive trips so I am positive he is also doing this to other tourists he feels he is able to intimidate. He should be removed from the airport.

I left the airport on 2 January 2012. Whilst in departures my family and I had a burger from the place that says it sells English pub food. I have recently returned through Sharm airport, unfortunately.
Who ever is responsible for passnger safety and crowd control should be removed at the earliest oppurtunity!
Traveling is not an enjoyable experience at the best of times but it can be made a lot easier than a trip through this airport.
As the main form of income into this region, it would make sense to look after the hand(s) that are feeding you. After being ripped off through having to pay 'cash' for excess baggage ,which incidentally was under flying out i had to endure a dangerous and uncomfatable crush to show my passport etc.
Although some of the people were a vile embaressment this does not mean that an investment in barriers and some education in crowd control would completly change the experience for the safer and better for all concerned.
Be ashamed of your opperation, very ashamed and do not expect my custom untill you get your act together.
Please for the safety of all do something to earn our custom!!!

My boyfriend and I used Sharm airport on Sunday 1st January 2012 and it was the most horrendous airport experience of my life.

After a long and lengthy delay in checking in for our Monarch flight to Gatwick (we were dropped at the airport in plenty of time) we then had to queue for well over an hour to get through passport control with approximately 1,000 other people.

The crowding was making me very claustrophobic and nervous; tempers were getting heated as adults were shouting at each other. Some vulgar people pushed in under the barriers and were even using words like the ‘c’ word in front of small children.

The whole experience was an absolute disgrace and the airport officials were stood on the steps viewing the chaos with absolutely no crowd control or risk assessment in place.

Had people of started to fight with each other for pushing in the queue it would have been much worse but it was bad enough believe you me. We did thankfully make our flight but it was touch and go.

The terminal clearly cannot cope with the amount of travelling passengers and I would urge the airport officials to take immediate action as this is a disaster waiting to happen. It was a very scary experience.

Sharm was a very pleasant holiday but based on the airport experience I would never return. It just goes to show how well our airports are run here in the UK.

I too travelled to this airport on the 18 Dec.11. and was caught up in the stampead trying to get through passport control, this airport is a disgrace, no security about they must have run for cover, there were children, and elderly passangers struggling to get through, and it was a miricle no one was seriously injured the managment need to hang there heads in shame. once through passport control (which took about 1hr 30mins, we found luggage slung all over the floor to keep the belts moving, some people could not find their cases and were distraugt. On the return flight 29/12/11 it was a nightmare. we arrived 3 hours before the flight and only had time for a very quick cup of tea before boarding. This was our 3rd visit to sharm. But never again. there will be no response from managment because sadly they are not interested, and that runs to all the staff at the airport.

Yesterday evening, flight from Bergamo-Italy arrieved at 9.10 pm. At the arrival it supposed to have the exchange office open to purchase the Visa. The office was closed and the police officers refused to put the stamp of South Sinai on the passport. The tourists had been blocked inside the airport for 1 hour waiting for the visa.

We arrived on 18th December and were unfortunate enough to be involved in a crush to get through passport control - the authorities did not care about the lack of queuing and people just pushing in an almighty scrum - I had my young son on my shoulder and my 9 year old daughter behind me in a large scrum of people all pushing to get through passport control - this is how people get crushed at concerts - not safe and a wonder no-one was hurt - this has put me off going back to Sharm ever again !!
I would like the airport authority to provide a response to my concerns and ensure that there is adequate queueing and enforcement of the queueing in future - until then we will not be going back and I will also be writing to Thomson and Thomas Cook about this problem.

The running and management of this airport is very bad. Yesterday checking our luggage in for a flight took ages (the baggage belt kept stopping). This was the least of our problems. We were queuing for over an hour to get through passport control - 2 staff and queues that weren't being managed. Once through passport control (no apologies for wait)our call to board was announced. We wanted to buy goods in the duty free but there was no time. Think of how much money was lost to the airport - do they care? I don't think they do. Never want to go back to Sharm airport - ever

food- Horifically over priced...Chocolate bars £1.50.... Pringles £5.... I know that you expect to pay a little more in an airport but that is rediculous!

rudeness of staff- On arrival there was no queuing system so this just made the hall into a sea of confused people that were all pushing to the other side...There were no queuing systems and when we asked why the next plane load of people behind us in the queue were now in front we were told to 'Smile'...Not helpful after a 5 hour flight. Surely the airport knew that theye were going to have more than one plan landing at the same time?...so should have been prepared! On depature pretty much the same the same thing constant confusion with queues...

Lounge smoke- Horrible to sit waiting for the plane in a smoke filled room... The smoking area was pretty useless!!!

Boards not updated correctly- Our Flight was never updated properly...listed as departed even though we were still in the queue.

no one roaming to ask- There seems to be no official person you can ask for help...when you do find people they all say different things...

pushing in at any gate- Our line was constantly held up due to people not even on our flight being checked-in... We actually thought we may miss the flight due to this!

Cofusion- to add more confusion to the mix there were random staff shouting destinations for no apparent reson which confused everyone...

To sum up... The airport experience is making us doubt if we would ever return to Sharm as it is a complete shambles! Worst airport in the world!

Salam, dear Islam!
I wish to thank all staff of the airport with all my heart! I leaved Sharm-el-Sheih in 05 november 2011, board U6 3018Y, departure time 21:55. Before one hour leaving the hotel I injured my leg and cannot to go. Your personnel helped me and my sister to move through the airport: to check medical inspection, to check-in to flight, and lift up on the board. I am very grateful to them for theirs help. I will never forget this. I hadn't time to thank man who support me for the most part of time in airport and I wish to correct this. I thank him and all staff of airport who helped me.

Good morning,
I report the loss of a personal effect on the flight of the day15/10/2011 flight number BV630, departed from Milan Malpensa(Italy).
The reservations for me and my family were
row 43
seat E
seat F
seat G
seat H

in the seat pocket in front of one of these I left an mp3 player,Apple brand, model I-Pod Classic, dark gray, in a black and red case with magnetic closure. The player was without headphones.

Can you please check if the finding has been reported?

Thank you,

Marco Casprini

Be aware that they will try to tell you when you arrive that you need to buy an Egypt visa if you are diving! This is not the case if you are staying at Dahab, as we were, and diving there!

Dear friends,
My little son lost yesterday evening a child bag (blue and white) with his favorite Sony PSP games. Flight number NWS1922, left at 22-00 on 14 October 2011. It was lost somewhere between passport control and gate number 6. The son is very unhappy about it. If any chance to get it back?
Appreciate your assistance

P.S. thank you for the summer holidays in your sunny country.

Had a need to use airport gents urgently. Gents contained 6 cubicals (traps), 3 where screened off with large crosses using tape similar to what police use at murder scenes. 2 cubicals where in use, leaving 1 free. Entered free cubical, toilet was cracked, both rim and seat dripping in urine. No toilet paper. No handle to flush loo. Finally no soap to wash hands. To my surprise the toilet cleaner man asked for a tip.

NEVER take a taxi without agreeing a price before getting in. I fell for this like a sucker - the "pimp" took me to the car and my family got in. He then charged me 300 Egyptian Pounds for a 5 minute ride which I paid him with him stood outside the taxi, he did not travel with us. He also had the audacity to tell me to tip the driver!

I learned my lesson - it cost just 60 pounds when I went back to the airport a week later.

Never accept a ride from a pimp - agree the price with the driver and pay only the driver.

Terminal 1 - Burger King - they have signs everywhere "Have it your way" but when i ordered a meal I noticed the price quoted + sales tax did not equal the amount requested. The reason - we only have large meals ! For an extra LE3 - no thanks. The toilets there were clean though :)

We also lost an underwater camera at sharm el sheikh airport. It had been safely packed away in our hand luggage bag but had mysteriously disappeared by the time we arrived back in the uk. This has absolutely devastated us as it was our first holiday away without our children because it was my 40th birthday. The camera can be replaced but all the wonderful photos we took cannot. We have nothing to show our children for our week away. Please please if anybody comes accross a grey nikon camera case please if you must keep the camera but please return the 2 memory cards inside the case which are worthless to anyone else but absolutely priceless to us.

I traveled back from sharm on the 14th april 2011 only to find on my return home that my brand new underwater video camera which i placed in my suitcase on arrival at the airport had been stolen from my case. Whoever took it opened the case took the camera and all accessories leaving the instuction manual and the charger which was not in the box, the box was closed and left in my case. From entering the airport to checking in the case no one could have tampered with it. It's not so much the theft of the camera as that can be replaced but the card storing all the underwater footage that i took while snokling. To say that my family and i are deeply upset at the loss of this footage would be an under statement, so if any body at the airport in authority reads this please ask the member of staff who stole my camera to at least return the memory card, if they're that hard up then they can keep the camera just return my card please. The camera is a white kodak play sport,PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE RETURN MY CARD.

FRom getting off the plane at SSH airport guests are being ripped off. Firstly, the banks charge 15US$ for a visa or 15 UK pounds when it should be 10 UK pounds! Then there is the taxi story. One driver asked for 200LE to Sharks bay which when metered, is just 20 LE! Then there are the men trying to get hold of your bags for tips. Its very off putting to guests when we are ripped off from the minute we enter Egypt! Also, I should like to give a mention to the disgusting toilets in the airport terminal. No paper, no flushes and no hand towels or soap. Hygiene here is very poor!

Having just returned from sharm el sheikh i must post this comment about the state of your ladies toilets. There was no toilet paper, none of the toilets flushed properly there was excrement all round the pans and the stench was disgusting. After a great holiday this really finished it off on the downside. Come on sharm get your act together and sort it out!!!!

We wanted to take newly bought water - pipe to aircraft as hand luggage, it was not allowed, then we checked it in and we never saw it any more. It was the only luggage missing from this flight. My feeling is, that because it was packed in original water-pipe bag the workers - porters just have stolen it, please advice if it not so and there is some possibilities to see it again ?

My husband and I had a very enjoyable stay in Sharm-elSheikh 18/3/11 - 25/3/11.Unfortunately our return journey to the Uk was spoilt by the state of the public toilets at the airport.I and many other passengers found that they were very dirty and many were broken so they could not flush. There was also a lack of hand drying facillities.I did speak to several staff who were on duty but they appeared to be helpless to improve the situation. The airport is a modern building with some interesting shops and good refreshments it is a pity that it is let down by basic hygiene facilities.I hope that the senior staff can improve these facillities urgently then when I visit lovely Sharm-el- Sheikh again there is a great improvement in the toilet situation.

I was shocked to find that there is a lack of a prayer room at Sharm el Sheik airport. When asking a member of staff about a place to pray my family and I were directed towards the smoking area. We assumed that there would be a small room at the back to pray in. However that was far from the case. Instead we were told that the only place to pray was in the smoking room on flattened cardboard boxes. We were shocked by this. How could Egypt with its historically rich religious background not be able to provide a prayer/mediation room for people of all faiths at one of its airports? To make matters worse, praying in a thick haze of smoke on a crude prayer mat in th form of cardboard boxes was extremely uncomfortable. I would hope that this problem is rectified in the near future.

Lastly, I would like to bring to your attention that there is a sign that is written incorrectly. A sign says 'Free Shops' when it should say Duty Free Shops. This is confusing and misleading. I would urge you to change it, in an effort to make Sharm and Egypt look more professional.

Lovely airport - shame about the toilets. They are absolutely filthy & disgusting. Went to use one & just had to walk out & wait till I got on the plane. I was really upset and irritated by unexpected rudeness of the airport staff during my latest travelling with my family on 28 Sept from your airport (SU 362)departure time 16.45 to Moscow. While check in we have being informed that the flight was delayed: expected time of departure 17.30. We have been checking the aiport monitors every 10 min for some update. Finally angry airport representative approached us (we were having dinner at Burger King)and with unappropriate rudeness informed us that the flight is on time and there were some announcements (we did not hear any). He even tried to show off his power not to allow us to go via our gate #2. He allows us to pass via the gate only when I said that I want to speak to the manager of the airport. By the way the monitors show still the same picture about our flight - delayed with ETD 17.30 !!!

A few questions to the airport authority:
1) why the information about the flights did not updated on-life on monitors accross the airport?
2) please note that there is dead zones in the airport like Burger King hall on a first floor where announcements are not heard.
3) the aiport staff behaveness shall be on the strong control

hey everyone traveling to sharm el sheikh airport . the thing with this airport is there is no real organization they are however trying so hard to improve the services given once you land here. me and my husband have been going to sharm for 7 years now and have seen it improve over the years it was once like a wooden shack in the dessert. if you can just get over the chaos once you lane you will find a very nice resort with very nice people. also try and get a taxi back to the airport for your return journey as the departure hall is quite cramped as there are usually about 14 flights going out within 2 hours. hope you all find this helpful. jo in swansea

After a wonderful week spent at a 5 star hotel, I saw the very ugly part of Sharm El Sheikh: the employees of the airport. Very rude, the guy from the check in counter asked us money to give us the boarding passes and to send our luggage to the aircraft. We have gave him 1 USD and he was very angry for receiving only 1 USD. He did that with almost 200 persons that stood at that queue...How is this possible? I'm from Romania, the corruption is a common practice in my country but what happened here is too much!!! If you really care, you should do something about this!
